10 things to Help Prepare You For Hard Times

There has been a lot of talk lately about the hard times ahead. There are those who believe hard times are ahead and then there are the more optimistic fellows, who think this is just a phase.

The "negative ones" go around saying "things are going to get rough," we need to get ready, and those who don't believe call them Doomsayers'. After all, our personality causes us to go about life getting ready for the bad times. Best case scenario teaches us if bad times never come and we worked hard at becoming prepared, then we just have extra stuff that we can either use or sell.

If you are on the optimist team, and something does happen, what are you going to do? Which one of these is the better of the two? I would tend to say that the person that prepares for the rainy day is the better of the two, because if things do get worse, then they are ready for emergencies regarding food, safety, and basic needs. What are we to do? The truth is you need to be ready, whether you believe hard times are ahead or not. Here are the top ten things you can do to prepare yourself for a rainy day.

1) Pray- 2 Chronicles 7:14 says "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." Seek the Lord and ask him for guidance as to what you should do in your particular situation.

2) Stay Informed & Follow Your Instinct- Stay up to date on current, local and world events you need to be informed so that you won't be caught off guard you might pick up on something get some type of GUT feeling whatever you do always follow your instinct.

3) We Need To Be Debt Free- Pay off as much debt as possible, as quickly as possible. We need to stop buying things on credit. If you don't have the cash to buy it, then DON'T buy it.

4) Have Some Cash On Hand- Image what would happen if the banking system goes PLOP and we can't get any money? All your life savings will be gone and you have no reserve. Also, try to keep on hand other sorts of valuables like gold, in the event the dollar becomes worthless.

5) Store Plenty Of Non-Perishables- You should have extra food and water, not only for your family, but also for all those (positive) family and friends, who chose not to get ready. Although you would be tempted to let them learn their lesson, you can't abandon them in a time of need.

6) Learn To Defend Your Family And Your Home- I know lots of people out there don't believe in firearms, but if you (and those around you) learn to handle them in a safe manner the many situations that have negatively been associated with them can be avoided. Take some courses on handling firearms, so if the time comes when you need to use it, you will be ready. Stock up on ammo. If you have a yard, get a big dog to roam your property and keep people out. Although this may represent another mouth to feed, it might well be worth the safety of your family.

7) Learn A New Skill-If you don't know how to hunt or how to skin an animal, find someone who does and ask them if you can go with them on a hunting trip so you can learn the skills. Learn how to can food so you can start stocking up your pantry.

8) Have Back Up Plans- You need to have other sources for water and for cooking. If you live in the city and have city water how will you get your water? You might want to buy a couple of 55 gallon drums and store some water. If you live in the country and run off of well water (like I do) then you need to have a manual pump so you can get to the water. How will you cook? Can you live without electricity? Our link below will direct to useful resources to help you answer those questions.

9) Get In Shape- The more basic our life becomes, the more manual labor we need. If you are totally out of shape, then you will be in a world of hurt (literally).

10) Find Likeminded People- During hard times, you'll have other people to turn to for help and comfort. Together, you can also help others in need.
